Czech Art Deco Neodymium Glass Decanter Set with Six Cordial Glasses, c. 1930s

An exceptional Czech Art Deco liqueur set, distinguished by its dynamic asymmetrical form and remarkable colour-changing glass.

Probably created in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s, the set consists of a sculptural decanter with its original faceted stopper and six matching cordial glasses. The flattened oval body, dramatically angled neck and sweeping loop handle create a composition that feels almost in motion, while the deeply ribbed glasses introduce a strong geometric rhythm.

The glass appears soft lilac under daylight and warm artificial light. Under traditional fluorescent lighting, it changes distinctly to a cool blue-green tone—an optical effect characteristic of neodymium glass, commonly known as Alexandrite glass. Comparative photographs taken under both lighting conditions are included.

The exact glassworks remains unknown. Nevertheless, the confident geometry, substantial construction and carefully coordinated design are consistent with high-quality Czechoslovak Art Deco production of the interwar period.

A particularly expressive complete set in which colour, light and asymmetrical form become part of the design itself.

Condition

Very good antique condition.

No chips, cracks or obvious repairs were found during inspection.

Light mineral residue and traces of previous use remain inside the decanter. Minor variations in the thickness of the decanter neck and in the base dimensions of the glasses are present. These appear consistent with period manufacture and hand finishing.

The stopper displays light surface wear appropriate to age and use.

The identification of the glass as neodymium is based on its characteristic observed colour change and has not been laboratory confirmed.
